Wetherspoons Story
- A woman was jailed after she hid in a toilet of a Wetherspoons pub, planning to nick a load of beer and sandwiches.
- Jaqui Holdsworth locked herself into the Wetherspoons pub in Kensington, Central London.
- She was spotted on CCTV trying different drinks and stealing sandwiches before realising she couldn’t get out.
- She called her boyfriend Clive, to help aid her getaway and to carry the very heavy binbag laden with food and beer.
- She claimed to have gone to the toilet to wash herself and brush her teeth then fell asleep in the cubicle.
- Clive was busy on ‘another job’ and failed to come to her rescue.
- Holdsworth claimed she was attacked by police arresting her. She shouted, ‘Why will no one listen to me.’
- When asked about the incident, PC Barnaby Rubble said, ‘I get this all the time, but this one was vicious.’
- Holdsworth said from the dock that the allegations were ‘all lies’ and added, ‘I’m as good as gold. I was hungry and so are the streets of London.’
- Holdsworth presented a letter to the court outlining the various wrongs that had been done to her.
- Magistrate Louise Ballum told her, ‘Over the last few months you have committed or been found guilty of a number of offences.’
- Clive had given an alibi for Holdsworth for some of her previous allegations.
- Sentencing resulted in 6 months imprisonment for Holdsworth’s assault on the police officer and previous burglaries.
- On hearing this, Holdsworth began ranting at the magistrate. When she was dragged from the dock, she shouted: ‘It was for the greater good, you don’t know what you’re talking about.’
- Dave Basset, the manager of the Kensington Wetherspoons, has since been encouraged to give the restaurant’s leftover sandwiches to the local food bank, and to ensure the building’s fire exits are kept clear at all times.
