Susie’s 2025 Workshop – Love, Hate & Revenge

LOVE

Love is a complex emotion characterised by a strong feeling of affection, attachment, and care for another person, animal, or thing.  It can manifest in various forms, from romantic love to familial love, and even extend to love for abstract concepts like art, nature, music, dancing, films or reading.

Different Types of Love

Romantic Love – Love between two people that involves attraction, intimacy, and commitment.

Familial Love Love between family members, such as parents and children, siblings and other relatives.

Platonic Love – A strong non-romantic affection and companionship between friends.

Self-Love – Acceptance, appreciation, and care for oneself.

Love for Animals – A strong feeling of affection and care for pets or other animals

In essence, love is a powerful emotion that plays a vital role in human relationships and overall well-being.

HATE

To dislike someone or something very much.

Here are just a few examples:

She hates her teacher.

She hates the cold, dark days of winter.

I hate it when you do that.

I hate him/her telling me what to do all the time.

I hate it when he/she corrects me in company.

I hate cabbage, sprouts and school dinners.

I hate monsters that hide under my bed.

I hate cruelty of any kind.

REVENGE

Also know as reprisal, retribution, vengeance. This suggests a punishment, or injury inflicted in return for one received.  Revenge is the carrying out of a bitter desire to injure another for a wrong done to oneself, or to those who are felt to be like oneself.  You can plot revenge, though it often has negative consequences for the person seeking it. While it might offer a short-term emotional release, revenge rarely provides long-term satisfaction, and can actually prolong the pain of the original offence.  Maybe revenge is a dish best served cold, or maybe not.

The Workshop

Exercise 1

Choose a main character or object for your story/poem.  Spend 5 minutes describing that character or object.

Exercise 2

Choose your second character and spend another 5 minutes describing that character.

These characters can be anything you want. They don’t have to be human.

Finally, using the two chosen characters, begin your story/poem.   This can be just a simple love story/poem, but if you feel really mean, then love can turn into hate.  If you feel really, really mean, then include revenge.  You can include just one, two or all three themes.  It’s entirely up to you.

  1. The advice/directions given in this workshop appears as though directed to a child – I for one, do not need concepts like love and hate explaining. This is not the first time workshops have contained search fatuous content. For this reason, I will be unsubscribing from this site.
