Why Food?
Food can simply fill your belly…
BUT – it can be much more than that!
Food can bring people together like when Harry shares food with Ron in Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling.
Food can drive people apart like when Violet and Klaus failed to make roast beef for Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
Food can be a metaphor for emotion like when Lyra shares bread and cheese with Will in The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman.
Food can create mystery or even magic like the scene featuring flambéed pancakes in Chocolat by Joanne Harris.
Workshop
Your tasty task is to write about the most favourite meal you (or your character!) have ever had, focusing on:
● How does it look/feel/taste? Does this combination create a magical experience?
● Does it trigger any memories/strong emotions?
● Who’s with you? Did they influence your choice of food? Do they affect your enjoyment of the dish?
Write for twenty minutes or until you make yourself hungry!
